"A Non-residential Center for Independent Living"

Established in 1996, RISE –Resource, Information, Support & Empowerment of Beaumont, Texas is a non-profit, non-residential organization designed and operated within the local community by persons with disabilities.  Our purpose is to provide free of charge independent living services to persons with disabilities, of all ages, their families and communities throughout Jefferson, Hardin, and Orange counties.

 

What is a Center for Independent Living?

Centers for Independent Living (CIL) are typically non-residential, non-profit, consumer-controlled, community-based, self help organizations providing services and advocacy by and for persons with all types of disabilities.  Their goal is to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential with within their families and communities.  Centers for Independent Living provide four core services:  peer support, information, and referral, independent living skills training, and persons and systems advocacy.  Some CILs offer a wide range of other services such as community education, training on the Americans with Disabilities Act, programmatic access to housing, employment, transportation, recreational facilities and health and social services.
